Note:The painting dates from 1965 and coincides with Philipson's use of Vinyl Toluene.' The paint manufacturers Craig & Rose suggested vinyl toluene when I asked them for a medium for attaching gold leaf. I began to use it quie frequently as a painting medium instead of linseed oil because of the mattness of the surfaces it creates.
