Note:Leon de Smet lived in England for most of World War 1 during which he painted a number of literary figures including John Galsworthy whom he came to know well. De Smet spent some time at Galsworthy's Devon home Wingstone Farm which was situated on the outskirts of the village of Manaton on the southern edge of Dartmoor.
