Footnote
Theo Fennell (b. 1951) was first educated at Eton, choosing to study art at York and later the Byam Shaw. On leaving Byam Shaw, Theo earned his first job working as an apprentice designer with Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd silversmiths. Theo expanded on his experience with Edward Barnard by establishing his own small workshop in Hatton Garden to design and create silverware. In 1982, Fennell founded his eponymous company and opened his first shop in Chelsea’s Fulham Road, which still serves as the company’s headquarters. Since then, additional boutiques have opened in many of England’s most prestigious department stores, including Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols, and have been followed by successful international ventures. Fennell has experimented across a broad spectrum of design, all the while upholding the belief that jewellery and silverware can be irreverent as well as beautiful, and exhibiting a scrupulous eye for minute detail.
