Wendy Ramshaw (FCSD FRSA OBE RDI CBE) was born in Sunderland in 1939. She studied illustration and fabric design at the Newcastle upon-Tyne College of Art and Industrial Design. Then she studied at Reading university, then the Central School of Art and Design in 1969 to undertake her postgraduate studies. She was nominated freeman and lady liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in 1973 and 1986, respectively. in June 1993 she was awarded OBE by the Queen for services to the arts and the CBE in 2003
