probably by Jules Wiese, stamped JW within a lozenge, with French control marks, the central oval agate intaglio, incised with figures and zodiac symbols, within bead borders set with circular cut assorted cabochons, to a pale blue enamelled border with white foliate scroll highlights

German born goldsmith and jeweller, Jules Wiese (1818-1890), worked in Paris, initially for Froment-Meurice. By 1860, he had set up his own business and is most famous for working in a medieval sculptural style. The assorted cabochons set to this piece, correspond to the various gem stones associated with the zodiac signs.
