Footnote
This is a rare item of holloware by a scarce Dundee maker. The firm of MacKenzie Brothers, founded ??, continued for some time although it is unclear how long they worked independantly, or when exactly this item was made. Only a few other pieces of holloware and flatware are confirmed by this maker and most are marked like this piece with maker's mark only.
Recently a nutmeg grater by this maker with identical marks was sold at auction for £4,000.
