Footnote
Pertabghar (Rajputana) enamels are produced by melting a thick layer of enamel onto a plate of burnished gold. While the materials are still hot a thin gold layer is applied to the enamel. This layer is typically cut into decorative scrolling motifs, often incorporating mythical animals and foliage, (as illustrated by this piece). Once the enamel hardens, the gold is often further tooled with additional details.
