Description
the upholstered back with outscrolled arms of different heights, on simulated rosewood legs, of bulbous beehive form to the front, with brass caps and castors Note: Napoleon was painted sitting in a chair of this form, an image which in turn inspired the architect Edwin Lutyens to design related chairs for his own use. A similar chair, larger and handed the other way, was sold in our fine antiques sale 16th July 2000. Both chairs appear to have Scottish origins, and the beehive leg used on this one is a common Scottish form.
