Note: By family repute, this wardrobe, along with other items of furniture, was purchased by the grandfather of the present owner at the sale of the contents of Witley Court, Worcestershire, in 1938. One of England's largest country houses, it was extensively expanded and remodelled in the 19th century. Queen Adelaide, the widow of William IV, was loaned the house as her principle residence from 1843-1846. It was known in the family as 'Queen Adelaide's wardrobe'.
