Description
the bell top case with a brass carrying handle and mounted at the corners with brass pine cone finials, the arched brass dial with a silvered chapter in Arabic and Roman numerals and pierced brass spandrels, three winding holes and a date aperture, the arch with a signed plate inscribed 'Robt Ward/ Abchurch Lane/ LONDON' and flanked by subsidiary dials, one 'Chime/Not Chime', the other tune selection 'Minuet/Highland Lady/ Lovely Nancy/ Happy Clown'; above a shaped apron and raised on gilt metal acanthus scroll feet, the eight-day three train movement striking a bell and chiming on eight bells, enclosed by a foliate engraved backplate, pull cord repeat to the right side, tune pull cord to the left side; the red lacquer case decorated with Chinese figures, temples and trellis pattern with blind fret angles highlighted with gilt details
