Footnote
Note:
The survival of Jacobite drinking glasses is well recorded and a great variety in style and design is encountered. The survival of decanters however is much rarer with less examples to compare. The few recorded seem to follow the same basic designs as the glasses, using the same iconography and symbolism which would have been apparent to the Jacobite supporters.
It is not clear why the survival of decanters is quite scarce, but it is thought that the larger stature of them may have been too much of a show of support for the cause and harder to disguise to the non-Jacobite community.
For a rare Jacobite portrait example see Lyon & Turnbull 'Jacobite, Stuart & Scottish Applied Arts', 13th May 2015, lot 56
