Footnote
Note: One of the most famous of the China trade clipper ships, the Ariel came a close second in the 1866 Tea Race from Foochow to London completing the journey in 99 days and docking only twenty minutes behind the winning ship, the Taeping. In 1872, on a journey bound for Australia, the Ariel was lost at sea with all hands. Presumably the victim of a storm in the South Pacific seas, no wreckage was found.
