The boys in this plaque merrily re-enact the Duanwu Festival, also popularly known as Dragon Boat Festival and Zhongxiao Festival, which occurs annually on the fifth day of the fifth month.
Compare to a blue-ground yangcai vase, also painted with 'hundred children and dragon boats' motif, Qing dynasty, Jiaqing mark and of the period, was in the Qing Court, now in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, Museum no. Gu Ci 故瓷2785; also see a similarly decorated vase, Jiaqing mark and of the period, sold at Sotheby's London, 07 November 2018, lot 14.
