the cover carved in high relief with an elderly scholar and young attendant in a lakeside pavilion, the foreground populated by three ladies taking a nap, the landscape with rich vegetation and craggy rocks, all encircled by bands of keyfret, the sides of the box and cover each with four quatrelobed cartouches containing blossoming and fruiting plants, all reserved against diaper grounds, the interiors and base lacquered black
