RARE GREEN JADE HUMANOID FIGURAL ORNAMENT

Description
carved with a humanoid figure with the face shaped as an inverted triangle resting directly on the curled legs and flanked by a pair of arms, the face detailed with bulging eyes and an enormous nose below a pair of horns, the jade of a green tone with amber marks on the head and on the right arm of the figure

These jades (lot 225-228) can be traced back to the aristocrat WAI family from Shanghai. Nancy Wai inherited this Chinese jade collection from her family and after marrying the Canadian Chinese antiques dealer Gyula Mayer in Hong Kong, she moved with him to Vancouver and brought these jade over to Canada.
Mrs. Nancy Wai-Mayer died in Vancouver in 1994 and after his wife's death Mr. Mayer sold the collection to their present owner in 1996. The present owner donated one piece of Shang dynasty jade from the collection to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, UK in 1999.
