Sale number: 421&nbsp; &nbsp;Our bi-annual auction of Fine Asian Works of Art held on 02 December 2014, was the final auction to take place that year as part of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.asianartinlondon.com/">Asian Art in London</a>. Being held for the first time at Crosshall Manor, St Neots in Cambridgeshire, the 552 lot sale was very well attended and a great success, achieving in excess of £1.5million - making it one of Lyon &amp; Turnbull’s best sale that year.The top lot of the sale, a blue and white Meiping vase, sold for £289,250 after an energetic bidding war; the piece had excellent provenance coming from the estate of well-known author Lady Mary Stewart - just one of the many private collections that characterized the sale. Two further lots from the same collection received much bidding attention, most notably a carved hardwood brush pot selling for £58,850 and a carved rhinoceros horn libation cup selling for £51,650.“A combination of moving the sale closer to London and a continually evolving market threw up a number of surprises, none more so than the Meiping vase much to the delight of one of the beneficiaries who attended Tuesday’s sale. This new location has proved to be a winning formula and we very much look forward to holding both of our Fine Asian sales for 2015 in St Neots.” – Lee Young, Head of the Asian DepartmentOther highlights included an exceptionally rare celadon and blue glazed ‘dragon’ charger which soared past its estimate of £20,000-30,000 reaching £241,250, also a pair of Doucai ‘butterflies and flowers’ medallion bowls which after much pre-sale attention finally reached £91,250 (one illustrated top left by title).We were honoured to offer select lots from the renowned collection of Leonard Gow for a second auction in a row, and similiarly to the previous sale, the selection sold well. Standing out, were a pair of yellow and green ‘dragon’ bowls, Yongzheng mark and of the period, which made nearly five times their estimate settling at £31,250.
