Provenance: The Alexander Ritchie Collection
Born in the late 19th Century, Alexander Ritchie was a carter to trade and lived in the south side of Glasgow for most of his life. During his career he became an avid collector of period paintings, oriental ceramics and objets d'art, which were typical of the time.
Ritchie purchased the family home in Dumbreck in the west of the city, which has since remained in the family for over one hundred years. Remarkably the house has remained untouched since the 19th Century, retaining all original fittings, features and period decor. Sadly Ritchie died in his early forties in 1926, leaving the special pieces from his collection in trust for the family.
