Footnote
Ng Eng Teng has always found his main source of inspiration in the human figure, and even his abstract works are experiments based in elements of the human form. This work is an example of a style most common in his sculpture, the rounded, biomorphic forms portraying human conditions such as motherhood, or human states, such as fear. Ng's sculpture reflects his interest in themes of identity and belonging, and of basic human feelings. A popular artist in his native Singapore, major artworks by Ng adorn public areas in the city: a bronze sculpture depicting a 'Mother And Child' lies outside Far East Shopping Centre along Orchard Road, and 'The Explorer' is located at the entrance of the Singapore Art Museum.
