明治 宗廣款 象牙雕人物置物
depicting a figure holding a woven basket covered with a peony and butterfly-decorated cloth, the man looks down in benevolent expression towards a hen followed by four chicks, the hen finely detailed with feathers and the man's clothes incised with chequered pattern, all above a circular plinth detailed with undulating surface, underneath a lacquered maker's mark 'Munehiro' above a double-squares mark

Provenance: The Late Dr Helen E C Cargill Thompson (1933-2020). The Cargill part of the family founded The Burmah Oil Company in 1876, and had interested in the East India Trading Company. Great friends of Burrell.
