of military type with leather bound white ray skin grip, single rivet hole blade tang, slightly curved single edged blade, no temper line (hamon) visible, standard military type brass tsuba in leather covered matching scabbard

Provenance:
This and the following three swords were surrendered during operations in 1944 and at the disarming of the Japanese in Saigon Area, Indochina, to Major T. A. Guthrie of the 4/10 Gurkha Rifles. Originally enlisted to the Black Watch in November 1939, he was first in France April to June 1940. From 1942 he was posted to Ceylon, Imphal, Burma, Irrawaddy Crossing and Rangoon in 1945. He returned to the UK in 1946.
