Description
the lock signed Corbau-A-Maastricht with plain 13 bore barrel, brass fore-sight, spurred brass pommel (minor damage to spur tips), brass trigger guard, replacement ramrod and pipe, full pale fruitwood full stock with carved shell behind tang, some minor damage at fore-end. Sold with this pistol is a full family tree of Cook descendents.

This pistol was traditionally the property of Captain James Cook R.N. and has passed from each generation to the present owners who are direct descendants of his sister. Margaret Cook (Capt. Cook's elder sister) married James Fleck in 1764 at all Saints Church, Great Ayton. James Fleck married Margaret Roundtree in 1794. Elizabeth Cook Fleck married John Davidson (of Kirby in Cleveland) in 1825. Margaret Davidson married William Carter at Kirby in 1848. Thomas Carter married Elizabeth Sowler. Edith Emily Carter married William Smith. Thomas Carter Smith married Irene May Bishop Kiere in 1929 at the Cathedral, Middlesbrough, Cleveland. Brenda Winifred Carter Smith married Michael Holder in 1958 at St. Teresa, Hartlepool.
