Footnote
Note: This chest has a history of service in India in the vendor's family. It probably originally belonged to Sgt Major Thomas Rodgers who married in India in 1871. His son Major Rivers Thomas Rodgers was born the following year at Chumar and grew up in India. He qualified as an apothecary in Calcutta and served throughout India in the Indian Medical Department and Prison service. The chest was certainly part of his household furniture when he was governor of Jubbalpore Jail.
