Footnote
The Sirius was built by Messrs Menzies of Leith and has the distinction of being the first steamship to cross the Atlantic, reaching New York a few hours before the Great Western in 1838. She famously had to revert to burning timber from her superstructure having run out of coal; unlike the Great Western the Sirius had not been built to cross the Atlantic.
