Description
the eight day movement with a single winding hole to the back, the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic chapters and subsidiary seconds dial above the VI, signed 'Margetts/ London/ Invt' and 'No. 97' in the seconds dial, mounted on a waisted mahogany stand with ogee brass feet and surmounted by a brass urn finial, the reverse bearing a circular ivory label inscribed 'MARGETTS/ 97/ EIGHT DAYS'; eight day chronometer movement with spring detent platform and chain fusee movement

London (Cheapside) Freeman of Clockmakers Company 1779, Liveryman of the Clockmakers Company 1799 - 1808. A famous maker of the late 18th Century in the circle of English horologists experimenting with precision timekeeping, such as: Mudge, Emery, Arnold, Earnshaw, Kendal, Brockbank, Barraud, Pennington and Haley. Examples of his work can be found in the British Museum, Guildhall Museum and the Dennison Collection.
