Note:
The Garnkirk Fireclay Company was established in Lanarkshire in 1832, being an internationally renowned establishment due to the high quality of their products and the resulting demand at home and overseas. The company grew to be the largest of their kind in the world, covering over 35 acres of land, with an internal railway system and employed several hundred staff, before changing hands, and later closing for business in the 1960s. This figure was illustrated in the company's catalogue of 1853, following their representation at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
