Note:
This Glasgow club was founded in the 18th century and is still in existence. Records commmence on 5th May 1752 and Dr John Moore was a famous founder member. In its original form the club had a literary nature. They started out meeting monthly at seven but this was soon changed to five- 'the dinner hour among the better classes' - according to John Strang in his 1856 ' Glasgow and its clubs' where a full thirty two pages are devoted to the history of this club. He continues 'with whist and conversation the evening passed till nine o'clock arrived'.
