the scroll handle over a bevelled glass top with repeat button, the case with bevelled glass panels to the front and sides, the silvered Roman numeral dial with subsidiary seconds dial and inscribed 'JAMES MCCABE / ROYAL EXCHANGE / LONDON / 2888; the rear brass door opening to a brass back plate engraved 'James McCabe / LONDON / 2888'; the 8 day twin chain double fusee movement striking on a gong

Note:
James McCabe was apprenticed to Reid and Auld, Edinburgh and became Free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1822. He continued his father's business in The Royal Exchange, London and established strong trading relationships in India, exporting large numbers of clocks and watches.
