Description
the hinged rectangular top centred by a finely worked inlaid ivory bouquet of flowers and cornucopia, within a densely inlaid border of scrolling flowers and ribbon bands continuing to the corner panels, with steel carrying handles, the interior fitted with an arrangment of drawers and compartments

By repute the box was originally owned by Apphia, Baroness Lyttelton (1743-1840), who was in Bengal with her first husband Colonel Joseph Peach (1731-1770), an officer in the 1st Bengal European Regiment. Lady Lyttelton then married Thomas, 2nd Baron Lyttelton (1744-1779) of Hagley Hall in Worcestershire, in 1772
