Apollo, October 1937. Illustrated on page 238 in a preview for the Coronation Embroidery Exhibition, 46 Eaton Square, 20-26th October 1937, with the caption 'Needlework Picture, said to have been embroidered by Mary Queen of Scots'.
Note:
Purchased by the present owner's family in 1956. It was examined by Margaret Swain in 1973, who did not rule out the Mary Queen of Scots attribution. There is however no surviving documentation to substantiate the attribution.
