the twin train movement with anchor escapement striking the hours on a bell, the moulded pediment with strapwork carved frieze and barley-twist pilasters, the brass dial with silvered chapter ring, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, the lower margin signed Henry Mereman, London bounded by rococo female mask spandrels, the winding holes with articulated covers, the trunk door with stems of blossoming foliage and perched birds enclosing a glazed pendulum aperture, on a similarly inlaid apron and moulded plinth
