Description
the cartouche shaped backs with swan neck crestings above figures draped in robes gesturing towards the boldly carved fruiting vines above, the solid seats with inswept corners, on inverted baluster turned legs united by flattened serpentine X-stretchers with boss finials, on spreading bun feet (2)

Note: this pair of chairs, together with one other, were bought by William Fettes & Son of Perth, from the 'Important Sale of Handsome and Valuable Antique Furniture and Furnishings within Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire', on 31st August 1949, lot 198. This pair was bought from William Fettes & Son as a wedding present for the current vendor, in 1950. The Blair Castle catalogue and William Fettes & Son receipt are for sale with this lot.
The third chair was sold in these rooms in July 2002.
