the shaped frieze with central drawer flanked by a deep drawer, panelled as two long and two short drawers, with octagonal foliate stamped brass handles, on square tapering legs headed by foliate paterae and 'gothic line and dot' stringing

The use of 'gothic line and dot' inlay is mentioned in the Edinburgh Cabinet Maker's Book of Prices and is a characteristic of much late 18th century and early 19th century furniture made in the city and its environs.
