Footnote
Note: Coxed and Woster were active during the period 1700-1720 and one of relatively few London cabinet makers to label their work. The firm was particularly adept at making bureau cabinets, often veneered in exotic burr woods with kingwood crossbandings and pewter stringing. Sometimes the cabinets were stained to simulate tortoiseshell.
Literature: a number of similar bureau cabinets by this firm are illustrated in Christopher Gilbert's Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture (Furniture History Society: 1996).
