Description
the paktong (Tutenag) action and trigger guard finely engraved with foliate ground with PERRY -LONDON within scrolls on each side of the lock, the shaped dark walnut butt finely inlaid with high quality silver wire intertwined scrolls terminating in flower heads, plain oval escutcheon with border engraving the silver butt cap with full Birmingham hallmarks for 1777 and makers mark CF for Charles Freeth, with Keith Neal collection tag P 696 attached to the floral engraved trigger guard

Note: Paktong (Tutenag) This alloy of copper, nickel and zinc resembles silver in appearance, though it is somewhat greasy to the touch. It was imported in to Europe from China during the second half of the 18th century and used in the manufacture of candlesticks, grates, fenders and gun barrels . Phineas Perry is recorded as a gunmaker, whitesmith and bell hanger in Hammersmith in 1830
