Note from anOrdain:
The signed dial was developed in 2022 as part of a project for the tailor Caroline Andrew. This was the culmination of a year’s work, taken on as a project to allow the team to develop new ideas in enamel, and was to be her watch; until it was discovered at the last moment that the only colour she didn't like happened to be purple. A bluey-grey replacement was made and this dial, which had been the favourite amongst the workshop, was unused. The dial has been created in a similar way to traditional ‘linen dials’ of the 1970’s where fabric is pressed into metal, leaving an impression. This process is generally done using a hydraulic press and a stamp in production, but in one-offs like this, the material is put through a rolling mill with the metal. This process destroys the fabric and each dial comes out quite differently from the others. Instead of linen, anOrdain used horsehair fabric pressed into silver, a material central to the work of Savile Row tailors. The dial was then overlaid with enamel. There is an optical illusion with this dial which was discovered during the process of development; as you look at the centre of the watch and rotate it, the soft wavy lines disappear and deep, parallel ridges appear.
Please note that all watches included in the EveryWatch auction have been manufactured specifically for this sale. They are new, however they have been handled for cataloguing and photography/promotional purposes and thus may have a few marks or small imperfections as they are not straight from the factory. Each watch comes with a manufacturer's warranty, purchasers must contact the manufacturer for any servicing/repairs after purchase and not Lyon & Turnbull or Scottish Watches.
