Literature: Carruthers A. and Greensted M. Good Citizen's Furniture, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum 1994, p. 108, no. 43 where a chair of the same design is illustrated.
Benjamin Fletcher was head of the Leicester School of Art, and a co-founder of Dryad. He introduced Harry Peach to the writings of William Morris and William Lethaby, who were leading members of the Arts & Crafts movement, resulting in many of the Dryad designs being made in the Arts & Crafts style like the current example. The current chair was one of the designer's favorites as he bought five in its first year of production.
