A sculptor and occasional painter, Mabel Sefton was born in Leytonstone, Essex, and studied at the Manchester School of Art from 1899 to 1902. From 1903 until around 1910, she worked primarily as a metalworker and sculptor. Between 1907 and 1910 she exhibited her work at both the Royal Academy and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. She also participated in an exhibition organised by the Clarion Guild of Handicraft in Manchester in 1904. Her practice reflects the growing recognition of women working in sculpture and metalwork in Britain during the early twentieth century.
