Note: James Morton (1867-1943) was the son of Alexander Morton (1844-1923), a textile manufacturer, from whom James inherited the family business, Alexander Morton & Co. Morton and his wife Beatrice were disciples of the Arts & Crafts Movement and the ideas of William Morris informed Morton’s approach to dying textiles. The firm commissioned work from many of the leading designers of the day including C.F.A. Voysey.
