Note: Having initially trained as an architect, George Bankart, after meeting with Ernest Gimson, turned his attentions to plasterwork and modelling; a decision which soon forged him an esteemed reputation as one of the leading specialists in the field of the Arts & Crafts movement. After spending time living and working in London and the Cotswolds, Bankart moved to Bromsgrove in 1899, where he worked under Henry Ludlow for the Bromsgrove Guild. During his seven years here, Bankart expanded the decorative plasterwork shops and undertook several commissions, including the plaster mouldings on the ceiling of the Great Hall at the Royal Naval College, London.
