Note: These thirteen oak chairs were part of the bequest made to the Society by the well-known Scottish painter, John Henry Lorimer (1856-1936). Lorimer was a keen amateur astronomer and served as a Vice President of the Society. Following his death on November 4th 1936, he bequeathed the majority of his estate to the Society including these chairs. The Society had them displayed at their premises on Calton Hill until 2008 after which they were displayed at Kellie Castle, Fife, the family home of Robert and Henry Lorimer
