Note: Charlotte Rhead (1885-1947) began working for Burgess & Leigh in 1926, following her employment with Wood & Sons. The company announced her arrival in a full page advert in 1927 in The Pottery Gazette. Burgess & Leigh had not made tube-lined pieces before Rhead joined the firm, but by March 1927 she had produced around fourteen new designs. Rhead's patterns were all numbered and a list of these designs remains in print, although this galleon design does not appear. It is evident that she there was to some cross-over with the patterns produced for Woods, and this charger is similar to a Woods plaque of the Santa Maria, number 1876.
