Footnote
Note: The tapestry shows the shield of King James I of England, Scotland, France and Ireland from 24 March, 1603. It continued to be used by his successors, Charles I, Charles II and James II until 11 December 1688 when the last named abdicated and 23 December 1688 was formally deposed by Parliament. The shield is surrounded by the garter and surmounted by a crown, although the crown on this example is not a typical representation of either the Scottish or St Edwards Crown, which are normally shown.
