Note: Born in Aberdeen, Richard Ross Robertson (1914-2007) trained first at Glasgow School of Art and then in Aberdeen in the 1930s. After active service in World War II he joined the staff of Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen in 1946 and continued to teach there until his retirement in 1979. Early in his career he worked in clay (for casting into bronze) and terracotta, but later he turned to carving in stone and wood. His work is held in Aberdeen Art Gallery, Princeton University, Boston University and The Metropolitan Museum, New York
