Note: Wyburd was leading the design department at the time this sideboard was made. The interesting shuttered cupboards and 'Flemish' hinges are characteristic of a range of furniture made by the firm at this time and illustrated in periodicals of the period. The Art Journal of 1897 published a critique of a similar piece to the current lot and praised its 'curious Flemish hinges and fittings of hammered iron, and its oddly shuttered cupboards for china.'
