Note; "Unapproachable in its dignity, as beautiful as a cathedral, yet without the ostentation of the builders art."; so wrote William Morris of the magnificent tithe barn at Great Coxwell.Built in the 13th century by Cistercian monks this buiding completely fulfills the Arts and Crafts tenet that form should follow function, and contributed to Morris' decision to move to Kelmscott Manor 12 miles away. Arthur Verstage was Hon. Secretary to the Kelmscott Fellowship.
