the superstructure with moulded cornice and leaf-cast crestings above two open shelves, asymmetrically arranged and supported by twisted tendril uprights with carved snail brackets, the base with rounded rectangular top above single door inlaid with thistles in specimen woods, the sides similarly panelled and flanked by a panelled door and two open shelves, with carved moth bracket, the base carved with bats, their outstretched wings forming the apron, the door with cast bat escutcheon, inlaid signature 'Emile Gallé à Nancy'
