Footnote
Note: These bottles are thought to have come from Haccombe House, Newton Abbot, the home of the Carew family. The present Georgian manor house post-dates an earlier medieval mansion house. A note accompanying the bottles states "Given by Sir Henry Carew to Melicent Page from the large number found in the cellars at Haccombe House, Newton Abbott (sic). The crest is that of the Carews & these bottles are thought to be hand-made in Tudor times, probably to hold port wine. Edmund Page 1955". Sir Henry Carew (1779-1830), was the 7th Baronet of Haccombe.
