Footnote
Taylor was one of the most successful naïve or ‘outsider’ artists of the 1960s; an East End Londoner who was ‘discovered’ in his thirties and went on to be exhibited by an impressive roster of galleries including the Mayfair Gallery, Redfern Gallery and Mercury Gallery. Feted in the press as ‘the spiv who found he had genius’, his first London show was a sellout on its opening day. His 1966 ‘View of Toile’ is held in the Kettles Yard collection.
