Footnote
Hugonin brings a rigorous formal approach to this series, as with all of his work. Each image has three formal elements: a ground and two respective groups of dots and linear ellipses, the arrangement and placement of which is determined through a complex numerical system centred around prime numbers. Hugonin describes his artistic intentions with this suite as ‘a series of observations into colour behaviour through the application of elliptical form. Rather than providing any finite conclusion or definitive answers these prints instead open up a series of meditative spaces for the direct experience of colour and its interactions.’
