Note: John Hitchens comes from a line of well regarded artists; his father Ivon Hitchens being a significant figure within the British Modernist movement, and his grandfather Alfred Hitchens a painter before him. Simon Hitchens, John's son, is a sculptore. The four generations of artists were the subject of an exhibition held at Kevis House Gallery in Petworth in 2019.
John Hitchens, who began exhibiting in the 1960s, making this a relatively early example, is known for his landscapes of West Sussex, North Wales, and the Northwest HIghlands.
